Serra da Estrela Tower is mainland Portugal’s highest peak (1993m). This stop is a rite of passage for many travelers because of its breathtaking views.
On our way to the Tower of Serra da Estrela, we’ll find a sculpture, carved on a rock, dating back to 1946 and dedicated to Our Lady of Good Star, the patron saint of shepherds.
One of the most popular stops is at the Glacier Valley. Idyllic waterfalls, typical stone houses scattered along the mountain slopes, and the village of Manteigas as a backdrop, turn the valley into a place of extreme beauty!
Covilhã is a wonderful city in the interior region of Portugal. It’s a gateway to mainland Portugal’s highest point – Serra da Estrela. Its history, monuments, museums, and modern energy make this city a must-see!
A unique place where you can get to know the whole handmade manufacturing process of the famous Serra’s cheese delicacy appreciated and recognized internationally. Here you will have the opportunity to taste 3 kinds of cheese and regional wine.
Scattered throughout the mountain you will find many ancient paths that were used by the local shepherds, and that today form an incredible network of trails. All of these trails go deep into thick forests passing by hidden lakes with amazing waterfalls and secret hideaways that can only be reached following a good hike.
It is a 12 km route, along the Mondego River, over wooden walkways (seven in total), some flat, others with stairs. They are inserted in a territory that UNESCO recognizes as Geopark Estrela. The route provides beautiful landscapes and integrates crossing areas, walkways, waterfalls and suspension bridges.
