3 Summer Destinations in Portugal

Everyone is always eager about summertime, and you’re probably no exception. In the summer, the sun, the light, the fresh air and the warm weather make us feel happier and relaxed. For that, it’s most certainly the season to make adventures, to go to places we’ve never been, because everything looks even prettier and we feel more daring.

Summertime is not far ahead, so if you’re uncertain about which place to choose, we can give a hint of what you can find in some of the best Portuguese summer destinations:

1. Costa Vicentina
The Costa Vicentina region is located south of Lisbon. In the summer is a must go for the Portuguese people, due to its wonderful beaches, radical sports and thematic activities. Starting in Lisbon and heading down to Sagres, you can go on an exceptional trip, especially in summertime. This trip will take you through the most amazing beaches, small cities and activities you can find in Costa Vicentina. Surf, air balloon rides, horse riding, parachutes, windsurf, and many other sports is one the things you can expect from this region. You can also just relax at the beach and enjoy the warm weather, go to a summer music festival, very common in the region, or visit some historic cities, like Santiago do Cacém and Sines.

2. Algarve
Algarve also has some of the country’s best beaches, but it offers plenty other experiences. Choosing this destination, you will delight yourself with Lagos, Portimão or Tavira. But Algarve is not only famous for its beaches. The good weather also invites you to visit a waterpark, such as Slide&Splash or Aquashow, where you can have a blast during your vacation! Nightclubs are also trendy in this region, and some of the best are Seven Vilamoura, NosoloÁgua and Bliss. If you head to Vilamoura, you can also find a great and beautiful Casino, where tourist and locals cross path. If you are also looking for some cultural experience, you might like to stroll through Faro or Sagres, important places in the Portuguese history, especially the last one, influent during the era of the Portuguese Discoveries. On the other hand, if you would like to experience the wild side of Algarve, you can go to Ilha de Faro or Ria Formosa, and enjoy some birdwatching.

3. Madeira
Madeira is a Portuguese archipelago, located near Africa. For that, it has a tropical climate, but still very hot during the summer. The entire Madeira Island can be visited in a day. Even though it’s a small island, it offers plenty of activities. You can go hiking to Pico do Areeiro or Pico Ruivo and dazzle with the most incredible views. You can also go on a boat ride around the island and swim in the infinite blue ocean, or, if you are a football fan, go to the Cristiano Ronaldo Museum, a unique place, telling the story of the famous football player, who was born in this island. If you like radical sports, you can go coasteering or canyoning. The other inhabited island of the archipelago is Porto Santo, most known for its breathtaking beaches and natural scenarios. This is the right place to go if you’re hoping to relax in a charming place.
